Vision:

The bridge connecting Veterans for service and leadership in Oregon local governments.

Guiding Principles:

  • To ADVOCATE for the service, skills, experience, and value that Veterans bring to the local government career field.
  • To expand the NETWORK of fellow Veterans and other professionals within OCCMA membership, enhancing inclusiveness, integration, mentorship, and service in local government.
  • To TRAIN Veterans and other leaders in local government best management practices, lessons learned, and latest development within the profession.
  • To PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES that help translate and enhance skills and experience of Veterans and other leaders and strengthen the diversity of the local government management profession.

Transitioning to a career in local government:

Moving from military service to local government service can be a challenge.  If you are a Veteran, we at OVLG (Oregon Veterans Leading Government) are here to support you, whether you’re looking to transition into a local government position or already serving in local government.

The local government profession is a continuation of a call to service, and you have been positioned and trained well for such an opportunity.  The skillsets learned and used in the military can translate into a myriad of functional civilian career fields. Local governments are looking to discover your talents and abilities.

For those who have transitioned from military service to local government service, we at OVLG welcome and encourage you to become part of our network at OVLG.  Service is a critical component; each of us shares our values, knowledge, skills, talents, and abilities, as we seek to help fellow veterans face many challenges.

Please contact one of the current OVLG leadership individuals to learn more or point other veterans toward growing and serving together in local government.
